Early Years Development International

Practical, compassionate support

for parents and early years

professionals

navigating behaviour, emotional development and SEND

When behaviour feels difficult, it's easy to focus on what we can see.

The hitting.

The crying.

The refusing.

The meltdowns.

The things that seem to happen again and again.

But behaviour is often only the visible part of a much bigger story.

What might this child be communicating?

What might they be carrying?

What do they need from the adults around them?

My work helps parents and early years professionals slow down,

understand what may be underneath behaviour, build stronger connections

and recognise when additional support may help.

My Signature Frameworks

Five simple ways to understand behaviour, build connection and support children.

🌿 01 - UNDERSTAND

The Invisible Backpack™ Checklist

What might this child be carrying?

A way of looking beneath behaviour and wondering

what might be contributing to what we're seeing.

02 - REASSURE

The Quiet Worry™ Workbook

It's okay to notice. It's okay to wonder.

A gentle resource for parents who have concerns about their child's development

or behaviour but aren't sure what to do next.

03 - PAUSE

The Pause™ Prompt Card

Create space before you respond.

A simple prompt to help you pause when emotions are

running high and choose a more helpful response.

04 - CONNECT

The Calm Connection Toolkit™

Connection isn't permissiveness. It's the foundation.

Practical ideas for strengthening connection and

emotional safety in everyday moments.

05 — SUPPORT

Early Support, Big Difference™ Guide

Notice with confidence, not panic.

A gentle guide to noticing patterns and

knowing when it may be helpful to seek further support.

Not sure which one is right for you?

Start with The Invisible Backpack™ - the foundation of my approach.

Understand first. Respond with care.

I believe children deserve adults who are curious about why behaviour is happening -

not simply focused on stopping it.

And I believe parents and professionals deserve support that feels practical, compassionate and realistic.

My approach is grounded in:

Notice. Understand. Pause. Connect. Support.

Because when we change the way we understand children, we can change the way they experience us.

Supporting Parents

You don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Parenting a young child can be wonderful, exhausting, confusing and sometimes overwhelming - all at the same time.

Perhaps you're dealing with behaviour that feels difficult to understand.

Maybe your child's emotions seem bigger than you know how to manage.

Or perhaps there's a quiet worry about their development, communication, social interaction or the way they respond to everyday situations.

You may simply be thinking:

"I know my child, and something doesn't feel quite right. I just don't know what to do next."

You don't need to have all the answers before you ask for support.

That's where I can help.

Understanding what's underneath the behaviour

Together, we can explore:

  • What your child may be communicating

  • What happens before and after difficult moments

  • Your child's individual strengths and needs

  • Emotional regulation and connection

  • Routines and transitions

  • Developmental concerns

  • What you've already tried

  • What might help you move forward

The aim isn't to give you another list of things you're "doing wrong".

It's to help you understand your child more clearly and feel more confident about what to do next.

Supporting Early Years Professionals

Confident adults create better experiences for children.

Practical support for individuals, teams and whole settings.

Early years professionals are often balancing behaviour, inclusion, individual needs and relationships with families - all while creating an environment where every child can thrive.

I provide practical, relationship-led support to help early years professionals feel more confident understanding behaviour, emotional development and SEND.

👥 Training & Workshops

Build confidence across your whole team.

Practical, engaging training designed around the needs of your setting.

Topics can include:

  • Understanding behaviour

  • Emotional development and regulation

  • SEND and inclusive practice

  • Connection and co-regulation

  • Supporting individual needs

  • Early support and recognising concerns

  • Working in partnership with parents

Training can be delivered for your whole team, as a focused workshop or as part of ongoing professional development.

🌿 Individual Child Consultation

When one child's needs are proving difficult to understand.

Sometimes a practitioner or team needs a fresh perspective.

I can work with you to explore:

  • What you're noticing

  • Patterns and possible triggers

  • What the child may be communicating

  • Their individual strengths and needs

  • What has already been tried

  • Practical strategies to support the child

  • How adults can respond more consistently

  • When additional support may be appropriate

The aim isn't simply to find a strategy to stop a behaviour.

It's to develop a deeper understanding of the child and a practical way forward.

A shared approach

Whether I'm working with an individual child or an entire team, my approach remains the same:

Notice before judging.
Understand before reacting.
Pause before responding.
Connect before correcting.
Support early.

More confident adults.
Better understanding.
More connected experiences for children.

Not sure what your setting needs?

You don't need to know whether training, consultation or ongoing support is the right starting point.

Tell me a little about your setting and what you're experiencing, and we can work out the most appropriate next step together.

Why work with me?

Hi, I'm Tina.

I've spent more than 25 years trying to understand what's underneath children's behaviour.

I've worked alongside young children, families and early years professionals in the UK and internationally.

I've led an Ofsted Outstanding-rated preschool, worked directly with families through early years support, delivered training and workshops, and supported children with a wide range of developmental and additional needs.

But the thing that has stayed with me throughout my career is this:

Behaviour is communication.

A child who is hitting, withdrawing, refusing or becoming overwhelmed isn't simply being "difficult".

There is usually a reason.

Our job as adults is to become curious about what that reason might be.

Why I do this work

I've seen how quickly adults can feel judged when a child's behaviour becomes challenging.

Parents can wonder:

"What am I doing wrong?"

Practitioners can wonder:

"What else can we try?"

And children can end up being defined by the behaviour adults find difficult.

I want to change that.

My work is about helping adults understand children differently - and giving them practical tools to respond with greater confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Is this suitable if I'm not sure whether my child has additional needs?

Yes. You don't need a diagnosis or a clear explanation before seeking support. We can start with what you're noticing and work from there.

Question 2: Will you tell me what's wrong with my child?

My role isn't to diagnose. I help you understand behaviour and development, explore what may be contributing to difficulties and identify practical next steps or appropriate support where needed

Question 3: What if I've already tried everything?

That's exactly why personalised support can help. We'll look at what's happening in your specific situation rather than adding another generic list of strategies.

Question 4: Do you work with nurseries as well as parents?

Yes. I work with early years settings through training, workshops, consultation and longer-term support.

Question 5: Can we work together online?

Yes. Parent consultations can be delivered online, making support accessible wherever you are.

You don't have to have all the answers.

Sometimes the first step is simply understanding what's happening.

Whether you're a parent wondering about your child's behaviour or an early years professional looking for greater confidence, I'm here to help.

Understand. Pause. Connect. Support.
