✍️ Reflections From My Practice - What Are We Noticing
I've worked with many families and early years professionals who have noticed that something isn't quite working for a child. Sometimes their concern is about communication, sometimes development. There can be concerns about emotional regulation or behaviour.
Sometimes it's simply a feeling that:
“T𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴.”
That observation matters. It doesn't mean we may necessarily know the reason and it doesn't mean we need to attach a label or panic.
It can simply be the beginning of a conversation.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴?
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵is 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱?
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁?
𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹?
Early support can be about responding to the child in front of us rather than waiting until difficulties become bigger.
𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲.
Sometimes the first step we take isn't a diagnosis. It's a conversation.
